Carl Gilleard, Chief Executive of the National Association of Student Recruiters speaking about why Situations, Tasks, Actions, Results and Skills is useful for students and recent graduates

Carl Gillieard

"Well, I've worked in graduate recruitment for over 20 years. In the job that I currently do, I work with other graduate recruiters on a daily basis. One of the chief concerns that employers have, is about the skills that graduates bring to the workplace. I believe that it is not the case that graduates don't have the skills, it is usually the case that they don't know how to articulate those skills when in the selection process.

Graduate recruitment is a very competitive business, and it is essential that graduates know what it is they've got to offer to employers when they apply for a graduate job. Any initiative that can be developed in higher education that helps students and graduates to understand exactly what skills and experiences, understandings and knowledge that they have to transfer to the workplace, the more I am going to be encouraged, and I am sure that a lot of the employers who are members of my association will be equally encouraged.

So my message to any students who are participating in the initiative is to go for it. You have to build your confidence, you have to shout what it is you have got to offer, no one else is going to do it for you. So this is your opportunity to make the best of the skills, knowledge and qualifications that you gain in higher education."
